Two 13-Year-Olds Charged With Attempting To Rob 11-Year-Old In Delaware
NEWARK, Del., (CBS) – Two 13-year-olds have been arrested and charged after New Castle County Police say they were identified for trying to take a cell phone from an 11-year-old.
At about 6:45 p.m. Monday, police were called to the unit block of Kelston Drive in Newark, Delaware for an assault of an 11-year-old.
According to police, the 11-year-old was walking in the neighborhood with both suspects when one of them stated they were going to take the victim's cell phone.
Police say the 11-year-old walked away from the suspects as they began to follow him. Police say the suspects allegedly began assaulting the 11-year-old in an attempt to take his cell phone. The assault was stopped by a passerby who intervened to help the victim, causing the two suspects to flee on foot.
The 11-year-old was taken to Christiana Hospital for his injuries. He was later treated and released.
During the investigation, police say they learned the 11-year-old was assaulted in May by two teens who attempted to take his cell phone with what appeared to be a gun. During the May incident, police say the victim was able to flee from the unknown suspects after a brief struggle and reported the incident to a family member.
Upon further investigation, police say officers learned one of the teens was responsible for both attempted robberies. They were later taken into custody without incident.
According to police, one teen was charged with two counts of attempted robbery in the first degree, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, conspiracy in the second degree, assault in the third degree and offensive touching.
He was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $183, 100 secured bail and issued a no contact order.
The other teen was charged with attempted robbery in the first degree, conspiracy in the second degree and assault in the third degree.
He was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $63,000 secured bail and issued a no contact order.
