Twitter Fiction Festival Celebrates Story-Telling
By Melony Roy
PHILADELPHIA (CBS)--Twitter may have given birth to a new literary genre. The social networking platform is redefining what it means to read and write fiction.
Twitter Fiction Festival is an all-day, all-night celebration of storytelling on Twitter. The festival doesn't take place until March but is now open for submissions until February 5th.
Authors and Twitter users can submit story ideas for a chance to become a "featured storyteller" whose Twitter fiction will be showcased alongside a group of well-known authors.
Local writer Eric Smith is one of the featured authors.
"I'm really not sure what I'm going to do yet but in the past people have done really interesting things like tweeting out spotify playlists as their short stories, web comics, images or just going with the 140 characters and writing short stories over a couple of days."
During the festival, everyone is invited to share their stories with the Twitterverse using the hashtag #TwitterFiction.
"I think it's just really about bringing together all these excited eager story tellers that are floating around on twitter and want a chance to engage with authors and not so famous authors.
The festival runs from March 12th through the 16th.
