Trash Truck Ends Up In Sinkhole Caused By Water Main Break In South Philly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A trash truck ended up in a sinkhole that was created by a water main break in a Philadelphia neighborhood Monday.
The bizarre incident happened in the 1300 block of Kater Street in South Philadelphia.
According to authorities, the incident began as a water main that eventually caused a sinkhole to open up in the street.
Police say the back tires of a trash truck ended up in the sinkhole. The trash truck was fully removed at about 1 p.m.
Crews with the Water Department and Philadelphia Gas Works were at the scene.
As a precaution, residents from both sides of Kater Street were temporarily evacuated, but they were allowed back in their homes once the trash truck was removed from the sinkhole.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
