Transportation Problems Linger After Ice Storm
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Transportation delays linger after Wednesday's winter storm that dumped up to a full half inch of ice on portions of the region and left hundreds of thousands without heat and electricity.
Amtrak service between Philadelphia and Harrisburg remained suspended throughout Thursday evening as the clean-up continues following the storm.
Amtrak later announced full service will be restored on Friday. Crews have cleared the tracks of fallen trees and other debris, however, delays up to 30 minutes may occur as a result of continuing work to repair signal issues in some areas.
SEPTA Regional Rail service remained suspended on the Paoli/Thorndale Line Thursday night due to weather-related problems. SEPTA says normal service is scheduled to resume for the Friday morning commute.
With scores of accidents reported all over the region, law enforcement officials are warning drivers of traffic lights not operating due to the power outages (see related story).
