Top Pumpkin Patches In Philadelphia

Fall is the air in Philly, and that means it's time to pay a visit to one of the many pumpkin patches in the Philadelphia area. In addition to pick-your-own pumpkin patches, many of these local farms and orchards offer hayrides, apple picking and other fall activities. We previously brought you a Philadelphia-area pumpkin patch list a few years ago, and now here's an update for the 2015 fall season.

Located in beautiful Chester Springs, this family-owned 103-acre farm features a ten-acre pumpkin patch where visitors can pick pumpkins straight off the vines. Free weekend hayrides to the patch give visitors an educational tour of a working farm. There are also farm animals and an on-site creamery, which features homemade ice cream flavors like Bessie's Black Raspberry and Polly's Pumpkin Pie, which is made on site using the milk from Milky Way Farm's cows.

In the Lansdale area, Merrymead Farm is one of the most popular fall pit stops. In addition to pumpkin picking, this family-owned farm and market is known for its annual storytelling and lighting of "The Great Pumpkin." Fall harvest celebration weekends include hayrides and tractor and wagon rides around the farm, a 700-foot cornstalk tunnel, a five-acre cornfield maze, harvest slinger, farm animals, face painting and a variety of children's games and activities.

In Delaware County, the 300-acre Linvilla Orchards is known for its annual Pumpkinland Harvest Festival, featuring giant scarecrows and over 100 tons of pumpkins. The festival runs every fall weekend from mid-September to early November, and it's a showcase for live music, costumed characters, face painting, pony rides, hayrides and a huge jack-o-lantern exhibit. Linvilla has tons of pumpkins available for purchase, as well as pick-your-own options on a slew of other crops throughout the year.

In the Collegeville area, photo ops abound at Varner Farms. This popular farm features six acres of pumpkins, with horse-drawn wagon rides to the patch. Other fall-themed draws include a must-see five-acre corn maze, cattle roping, paint-your-own pumpkin activities and much more. This farm also has a gift shop that offers many items, including flowers, wreaths, jams and apple cider.

Bucks County is home to Active Acres, which offers a flat rate price for a complete fall entertainment experience. The Sleepy Hollow Hayride costs $15 and includes a one-and-a-quarter hayride to the pumpkin patch (Kids under three ride for free), a corn maze, inflatables for the kids, a rope maze and any size pumpkin you can find. An a la carte menu of other activities includes a gem dig, pony rides and a corn cannon. Scarier fare is available at night, including a haunted version of the hayride.
