Thousands Attend Job Fair Hosted By Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The resumes were flying at a job fair the Philadelphia International Airport held on Temple University's campus.
About 3,000 people were expected at the Liacouras Center, each of whom were encouraged to bring plenty of copies of their resumes.
"I'm here pursuing a career in customer service," said Desiree Valentine. "I've worked in customer service my whole work career."
Desiree now has a connection at a local airline carrier.
"Well, my sister works for them already. I just came to meet these people in person that I can't see on line," Desiree said.
James Karlesses, an aircraft maintenance supervisor, with American Airlines for nearly 30 years, says there's plenty of work to go around.
"It's a 24/7 365 day a year job," John said. "You work holidays, weekends, midnights, in the cold, rain, snow or the heat."
Somebody has to service all of those aircrafts.
"That's correct, and even if we're not flying, there's always a to do list," John said.
The Philadelphia International Airport also set up a computer lab, with 18 laptops to help those without access to a computer, input data, upload their resumes, and hook them up with prospective employers. PHL Chief Administrative Officer Sade Olanipekun-Lewis says nowadays, most employers require applicants to provide info online.
In all, about 40 companies were looking to fill more than 450 jobs.
