Philadelphia kicks off Juneteenth celebrations with flag raising

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This weekend is going to be a hot one, Philly! While many will head to the shore to beat the heat, there's no need to get FOMO if you're not driving south because the Philadelphia region will be bumping with events and festivals you won't want to miss this weekend. 

Celebrate Juneteenth a few days early at the 2024 Philadelphia Juneteenth Festival in Germantown, or at Penn Museum's inaugural Juneteenth Festival, or even over the bridge in New Jersey at Willingboro Township's 4th annual Juneteenth Festival. 

This weekend you can also sip on bottomless sangria samples at SangriaFest in Upper Macungie, enjoy brunch and a drag show "Glee" style, or even check out the World's Largest Pickle Party in South Philly.

Pride in the Park: Philadelphia's LGBTQ+ Field Day

Philadelphia is celebrating Pride this weekend in a very summer-themed way at the Fairmount Park Conservancy's first-ever Pride in the Park: Philly LGBTQ+ Field Day! If you miss the nostalgia of your high school or college field day, you're in for a treat with this eventful and competitive lineup featuring games like tug-of-war, cornhole, slip-n-slide, relay races and more. 

There's no experience level needed to participate either! The only goal is to have fun and be kind. The event starts at 9 a.m. at the John Welsh Memorial Fountain on Saturday and ends with a closing ceremony and award handout at 2:15 p.m. Tickets range between $10-$15 to participate.

The Franklin Institute's 12th Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance

Celebrate Father's Day with the ones you love at The Franklin Institute for the 12th Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance and dinner on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event is hosted by Daddy University, a school for parent education that offers free and low-cost fatherhood classes to men in Philadelphia. The event doesn't have an age limit, nor is it limited to biological fathers. Tickets to the annual event start at $72.

SangriaFest Upper Macungie

Sipping sangria in a park on a sunny Saturday? Say less, we're there! SangriaFest Upper Macungie is back for another year at Grange Park this Saturday. Grab a drink, enjoy some music, play a game or two, and most importantly, have some fun in the sun! Tickets to this 21+ event range from $15-$44. Premium access ticketholders can start their sipping at 3 p.m. while general admission access opens at 4 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m.

World's Largest Pickle Party 2024

The World's Largest Pickle Party 2024 is coming to Xfinity Live this weekend and is sure to be a big dill! This year's party entails 75 vendors, an assortment of food trucks, mascots, outdoor games, and kids zone activities with exclusive pickle party events like the Brine Chug Challenge and World Pickle Eating Championship. 

And what kind of pickle party is complete without America's hottest sport, pickleball? Take it all in this Saturday at Xfinity Live from noon to 7 p.m. Tickets won't be sold at the door so you'll want to secure your tickets ahead of time.

Clock in, sneakerheads! The Philadelphia Got Sole Sneaker Convention is this Saturday at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania. Shoe gods, get ready to buy, sell and trade sneakers. This year's convention will feature various surprise giveaways, performances, contests and more. 

Philadelphia Got Sole Sneaker Convention runs from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $25.

Big Wig Glee Brunch at Punch Line Philly

Calling all Gleeks! Punch Line Philly's weekly drag brunch is taking a trip down memory lane with an unforgettable soundtrack this Saturday. The Big Wig Glee Brunch: The Ultimate Drag Experience is this Saturday at noon, promising the city's "finest drag performers [and] a brunch you will never forget." The bar opens at 10:30 a.m. 

Tickets for this 18+ event are $30.75 each.

Rick Springfield and Richard Marx in Atlantic City

Rick Springfield and Richard Marx are gearing up for a night of fun, memories and nostalgia at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa this Saturday. The "Jessie's Girl" singer is teaming up with Marx and will be "Right Here Waiting" for a night of intimate acoustic performances. Tickets to see the two artists in action start at $146.

The event is free to the public and kicks off on the 6300 block of Germantown Ave starting at noon on Saturday and will run until 7 p.m. 

Penn Museum's inaugural Juneteenth Festival

Where: Penn Museum at 3260 South Street, Philadelphia
When: June 15, 2024 Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The whole family is invited to the festival filled with live performances, DJ sets, storytelling and hands-on activities for all ages. Advance registration is encouraged but not required and the family can support locally owned food trucks and Black-owned businesses. Tickets are free for Penn faculty, staff, and students, museum members and children ages 5 and under. For ages 6-17 and college students, tickets are $13, for seniors tickets are $16 and for adults tickets are $18.

YMCA of Delaware Juneteenth event

Where: Walnut Street YMCA at 1000 North Walnut Street, Wilmington
When: June 15, 2024 Time: noon - 3 p.m.

This free community event will feature food vendors, an open swim and live music celebrating African American culture and history. The event also includes educational booths detailing the significance of Juneteenth, face painting, games, storytelling sessions and more.

Willingboro Township's 4th annual Juneteenth Festival 

Where: Millcreek Park at 300 Beverly Rancocas Rd, Willingboro, N.J.
When: June 15, 2024 Time: noon - 4 p.m.

The festival will feature live music, spoken word, food trucks, merch and much more including a focus on the Harlem Renaissance era, sponsored in part by Cooper University Health Care and Pennoni.
