The Who's Philadelphia Show To Aid Children With Cancer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Legendary rock band, The Who, performs what's being called, their final concert, at the Wells Fargo Center. The band is donating some of the proceeds from their March 14th show to children with cancer.

In an exclusive interview, Eyewitness News talks to bandmember Roger Daltrey.

On their 50th anniversary world tour, The Who, Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend are making music history and raising money and awareness for a charity called Who Cares Teen Cancer America.

"These are your teenagers, they need your support, your community, your future," said Daltrey.

Teen Cancer America creates friendly environments in hospitals so children being treated for cancer have a refuge.

It's a mission that started in the United Kingdom and has now moved across the pond, to the United States.

"Thats why the room is so new," said Philadelphia lawyer Howard Jaffe who helped create Teen Cancer America.

"A lot of letters, phone calls and begging to meet Roger," explains Jaffe.

But he finally made the connection and now Jaffe, The Who fan, is a partner with Daltrey and Townshend in Teen Cancer America which now has facilities in about a dozen hospitals around the country.

"I think it's unbelievable because you see rock stars and they're these iconic figures, but at the end of the day they're just good guys and good people," says Jaffe. "They are philanthropic guys with a real purpose to help others."

A new space at Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia is funded by Teen Cancer America.

"The space isn't ready yet but we plan on having more flat screens, game systems, and paint everything," says Jaffe.

This is where teenaged CHOP patients will be able to come for some distractions and fun.

"They really need a space where they can address their needs," Jaffe said about the room for the young patients.

The Who Care legend will live on not just with their music, but with the young cancer patients being helped by the rockers.
