The Story Of Anne Frank Still Moving
By Dr. Marciene Mattleman
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - In June 1944, a young girl received a book, a present for her 13th birthday. Two months later she, her family and four other Jewish families went into hiding from the Nazis in Amsterdam. That girl was Anne Frank who died in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp two months before the war ended. Her diary was published after her death by her father and has been translated into more than 36 languages and appears on several lists as one of the top books of the 20 century.
While the book is a story from World War II of hate, discrimination and torture, it's about a young girl growing up. It explores the feelings of loneliness and isolation and a boy/girl relationship in hiding as well. It is for those reasons why it has been read world over and studied in schools.
Visit Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl for reviews, photos and comments and be sure to read or re-read the book. It's a masterpiece of courage.
