The Rain And Clouds Are Clearing Out

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The rain is pulling away and the clouds will eventually give way to some sun. That will be the story of today as we transition towards a pretty nice weekend.

Highs won't be as warm as they've been, but the low 70s are still above average for this time of year. Expect those to last through Saturday before a big time change!

Friday looks sunny and mild, and it will stay that way into Saturday. A few more clouds Saturday afternoon will mark the passage of another cold front. It will be weak and no precipitation is expected with this front as it passes through Saturday night. This is what will spark the significant temperature change. Highs on Sunday will fall into the mid to upper 50s, below average for mid-October.

In the tropics, Hurricane Gonzalo has it's sights set on Bermuda and the forecast for the tiny island is not looking good. Gonzalo strengthened to a category 4 storm overnight. Winds are currently sustained at 140mph, with gusts in excess of 165. Thankfully it is currently in open waters and no threat to land. It is expected to maintain its major hurricane status, weakening only to a category 3 by time it approaches Bermuda.

Simultaneously, the Hawaiian Islands are once again being threatened by tropical activity as well. The first officially classified Central Pacific Storm of 2014, Hurricane Ana, is going to pass dangerously close to the islands. Regardless on an indirect impact, Ana will still bring heavy rains, wind, and rough seas to the Hawaiian region.
