The Last Five Most Significant Regular Season Games At The Linc, Including This Sunday

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Sunday will be the most significant regular season game at Lincoln Financial Field since December 28th, 2010.

It was Week 16, a snowstorm-causing-Tuesday night game, in which the Eagles hosted Joe Webb and the Minnesota Vikings for a chance to remain in contention for the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye. The Eagles, of course, lost 24-14 in a game we cannot erase from our minds no matter how hard we try.

However, in about 78 hours, Eagles fans will fill the Linc with the same hopeful feeling they did about four years ago, as the possibility of the No. 2 seed and a ten-game home winning streak will be put on the line. More importantly, with the idea of a Super Bowl parade down Broad Street swirling around in the back of our minds.

Let's take a look at last five most significant regular season Eagles home games.

5. Week 16 - December 22nd, 2013 vs. Chicago Bears

The Eagles went into this game knowing the following week, Week 17 at Dallas, would decide their playoff fate. Still, Chip Kelly decided to play his starters and make a statement and the Eagles won a Sunday night prime time game 54-11.

4. Week 4 - September 30th, 2012  vs. New York Giants

Remember this game? Lawrence Tynes missed the game-winning field goal, but Andy called timeout, and then Tynes missed it again! The Eagles won 19-17 and improved to 3-1, but then finished 1-11. Reid was fired, Mike Vick was replaced by Nick Foles, and the Eagles did not win another home game until Nov 17, 2013 (ten straight home losses).

3. Week 14 - December 8th, 2013 vs. Detroit Lions

Forever dubbed the Snow Bowl. Both teams entered the game 7-5 with NFC playoff implications on the line and LeSean McCoy piled up a franchise record 217 rushing yards in a snowstorm in South Philadelphia. It was a game we'll never foget.

2. Week 16 - December 28th, 2010 vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Joe Webb game. Ugh.

The Eagles entered this game 10-4, knowing a win keep the No. 2 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye possible. The game was played on a Tuesday night because of a snowstorm. Webb threw for 195 yards and ran for a touchdown in his first career start, filling in for Brett Favre. The Vikings won 24-14.

1. Week 14 - December 7th, 2014 vs. Seattle Seahawks

This Sunday we welcome the defending champs to town, with a high probability of the No. 2 seed being on the line. The Eagles enter 9-3, winners of four of their last five, and ten straight at home. The Seahawks enter 8-4, winners of five of their six.

Pete Carroll vs. Chip Kelly and his former USC QB Mark Sanchez. Offense vs. Defense. Earl Thomas and Russell Wilson, two guys the Eagles could have drafted. Richard Sherman and his big mouth. Story lines galore!

With all that being said, the following Sunday's Week 15 Sunday night matchup at home against the Cowboys, probably triumphs all five of these games.
