The Kimmel Center Hosts "Organ Day" To Celebrate The Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On June 7th, The Kimmel Center hosts Organ Day, celebrating a unique and powerful instrument, the Fred J. Cooper Memorial Organ.
"Organ Day" is a free, family-friendly celebration.
"It has 6,938 pipes, four blowers, 300 levels of memory, 111 stops, and a total weight of 32 tons," said Artistic Director for Programs and Events Jay Wahl.
Wahl says the free, daylong family event offers an opportunity to experience the instrument's huge range.
"Used with puppets, used with film, used with a 60 member choir, used with a jazz singer, used with a brass band. You're gonna hear the organ in a lot of different ways, and we hope you hear the organ in ways you've never heard it before."
The events start at 11 a.m. with a special puppet performance of Peter and the Wolf, and include the screening of two Buster Keaton comedies.
