The Eagles Hand Off Major Donation To Autism Research

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie's commitment to assist in the advancement of autism research continued this week with a massive donation to a Philadelphia hospital.

The fight against autism is a personal one for Jeffrey Lurie, who has a family member on the spectrum.

Eagles president Don Smolenski said this $1-million donation to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will help strengthen an already strong partnership between the two organizations.

"It's just an opportunity for the Eagles to work with that great institution in an area that touches so many people," Smolenski said.

The big donation announcement came at a fundraising dinner that also produced $300,000 for CHOP's center for autism research.
