'The Barber Of Seville'

By R.J. McKay

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Opera is celebrating its 40th season this year.

David Devan, the general director and president of Philadelphia Opera, says it was an easy choice to kick off their season with "The Barber of Seville."

"We chose to open our 40th anniversary season with 'The Barber of Seville' because it's fun, and opera can be fun," Devan says.

He also explained why it's so popular.

"This opera has been around for awhile, and it's infectious. It's popular because of the infectious music. Many of us remember it from 'The Wabbit Seville' from Bugs Bunny, the famous overture. It's an opera that speaks to us because there are real characters, and the music – you just can't stop humming it."

"The Barber of Seville" opens on Sept. 26th. For more information, visit: www.operaphila.org.
