Thai-Rolled Ice Cream Growing In Popularity
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia's summer food trend has definitely been Thai-rolled ice cream.
If you haven't tried Thai rolled ice cream yet, there are now four Philadelphia shops that offer it, with a fifth one coming in the fall. Yan Cai's Iceland store in Chinatown was the first ice cream shop to offer the dessert here in Philadelphia, which is made to order on a frozen pan and then scraped up in the shape of a scroll.
"I guess everyone saw that online and it is really popular in New York like last year, and then everyone just started to think about doing it but everyone kept doing it in secret and then all of a sudden, everyone pop up," Cai said.

Stephen Ngo manages Teassert on 10th Street, across the street from Iceland.
"Many of us, we all thought we were all going to be the first ones in; next thing you know, 3 or 4 places are opening around the same time!"
A third Thai-rolled ice cream shop in Chinatown called 'Frozen' is full of customers from the moment they open. But the busiest shop this summer has probably been Sweet Charlie's in Washington Square West.
"Every single say there's a line out the door, yeah," Sweet Charlie's shift leader Brenden Skaggs said.
