Temple Football Announces 3-Game Series With Oklahoma Sooners
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Temple Owls football team is coming off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the program in 2015.
Temple posted 10 wins on the season (a school best) including a win over Penn State. The program also shined while hosting Notre Dame and College Gameday in Philadelphia. Despite falling to Toledo in the Boca Raton Bowl, the Owls received a level of national notoriety that the program has not normally enjoyed.
On Wednesday, the team announced a new series of match-ups with one of college football's top programs. Beginning in 2024, the Owls will begin a three-game series against the Oklahoma Sooners.
"We look forward to starting a series with a great program like Oklahoma and hosting the Sooners in Philadelphia," Dr. Patrick Kraft, Temple's Athletic's Director said in a statement. "Our goal is to continue to schedule the best games possible for our program, alums and the college football fans in the city."
The first game of the series will be played on August 31, 2024 in Oklahoma. The Owls will host the Sooners on September 13, 2025 and the series is scheduled to wrap up on September 2, 2028 with the Owls back on the road.
The Owls have not played Oklahoma since 1942. The Owls won that game in Philadelphia, 14-7. The only other meeting between the two came in 1940 when the Sooners won 9-6 at home.
