Temple Cruises To Easy 38-0 Win Over Stony Brook
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillip Walker threw three touchdowns, two going to Keith Kirkwood, and Temple crushed Stony Brook 38-0 on Saturday in its first shutout win in two seasons.
Temple (1-1) last blanked an opponent on Sept. 20, 2014, beating Delaware State 59-0, its largest margin of victory in school history.
The Owls outgained Stony Brook (1-1) in total yards 301-133. Stony Brook failed to convert a third down in 13 attempts.
Ryquell Armstead started the scoring with a 3-yard run in the first quarter before Walker connected with Kirkwood on 5-yard score to make it 14-0.
Jager Gardner made it 21-0 early in the second quarter with a 4-yard touchdown run. Walker then threw a 15-yard scoring strike to Brodrick Yancy with 9:09 before halftime.
Temple intercepted Stony Brook's Joe Carbone twice and backup Pat Irwin threw a pick.
The FCS Seawolves fell to 1-7 against FBS opponents.
