Taney Dragons Fall To Nevada 8-1

By Joseph Santoliquito

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (CBS) — You just knew that they were going to make it exciting. You knew that despite being down three runs against what appeared to be an unhittable pitcher, that they would find a way—eventually—to hit him. And they did.

But in the end, Las Vegas proved to be a little too tough for Taney, Philadelphia's new favorite team, winning 8-1 Wednesday night.

The loss drops Taney into the Little League World Series loser's bracket, where they'll be playing for their season against Chicago Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., while Nevada advances to the U.S. Championship game on Saturday.

After falling behind 3-0, Taney appeared to place Las Vegas in trouble with the bases loaded and no outs. But man-child lefty Austin Kryszczuk shut Taney down with a strikeout and coaxed a double play off a line drive.

In the bottom of the fifth, Taney threatened again, with runners at the corners and no outs. But Kryszczuk got a force out at second, and then followed with a pair of strikeouts.

Things didn't start too well for Taney. Dragons' star Mo'ne Davis gave up three runs over the first two innings, giving up six hits and striking out six. Meanwhile, Las Vegas starter Brad Stone ripped through the Taney lineup until the fourth, when the Dragons loaded the bases with no outs.

That's when Kryszczuk came in to close. He went the final three innings and was overpowering for most of the Taney lineup.
