Suspect Charged In Robbery Of Movie Theater In Delaware County

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (CBS) -- Police have arrested a former employee they say robbed a movie theater in Delaware County last week.

Investigators say it is not the first time the suspect robbed the business.

Christopher Heinly, 26, is facing a slew of charges for his alleged role in the robbery of the AMC Marple 10 located on the 400 block of South State Road in Springfield.

The armed suspect entered the movie theater at about 11 p.m. on March 28th and took approximately $600 in cash before running out and getting into the passenger side of a getaway car.

According to police, a security guard at the theater followed the man into the parking lot and to the car when an argument ensued. The guard told police someone inside the car flashed a gun, so the guard fired a gun and hit the driver's side door.

The suspects then drove away.

Investigators say Heinly is a former employee of the movie theater.

He was developed as a suspect after being captured on theater security cameras and later identified by current and former employees of the theater as the suspect seen on security footage.

Heinly was taken into custody Wednesday night.

In addition, Heinly has been charged with two additional robberies of the same theater occurring on June 9, 2012 and June 9, 2013.

He has been charged with two counts of Robbery, three counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking, three counts of Receiving Stolen Property and Criminal Conspiracy.

Heinly was arraigned Thursday morning.

Authorities say charges are pending against two co-conspirators.
