Survey: Growing Trend Of Using Plastic Over Paper For Small Purchases
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A new survey indicates people are increasingly using their credit cards for small purchases.
According to a survey by creditcards.com, two out of every five people will use a card to make a purchase of less than $5.
But this credit card trend makes some people who spoke with KYW Newsradio nervous:
"We're becoming more vulnerable, definitely. I believe so."
I've actually had people use my bank card information and I didn't know why."
"There's a lot that can go wrong and they're trying to prevent that, but I mean, it can malfunction at any time."
(Reporter) "When was the last time you actually paid with paper?"
"Oooh, I don't remember. It's been a long time!"
This PetSmart employee says the survey sounds pretty accurate:
"I'd say 95-percent of my customers come in with a credit card -- not even a debit card -- a credit card over cash."
Even for $1 purchases, the employee says.
