Summer Program For Kids Kicks Off at Philadelphia Art Museum

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- To instill art appreciation in its youngest visitors, the folks at the Philadelphia Museum of Art are inviting children to participate in their summer programs.
The second annual "Art Splash" program has kicked off at the museum.
"Art Splash is a summerlong family festival," says associate curator Emily Schreiner. She says they've set up activities on the second floor of the museum, under the Great Hall staircase. "So this is our splash studio. We're gonna be making art here all summer long, 10(am to) 5(pm) every day, and we're open until 7 on Wednesday and Friday nights. We also have an activity area where families can read, hang out, build with blocks. We'll also use that as a teaching space sometimes."
And there are also Art Splash stations scattered throughout the galleries, with exhibit-specific games and explanations geared toward children.
"We really want families to feel comfortable exploring the galleries and the treasures that they hold," Schreiner says.
