Summer Garden Railway Opens At Morris Arboretum

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - It's choo-choo time! Children love trains and if a lot of those enthusiastic 'kids' seem to be several decades past childhood, well, that's OK. Because the Summer Garden Railway opens this weekend at the Morris Arboretum and you don't have to be tiny to appreciate this miniature world.

What makes this railroad set up extra special is that in their quarter-mile tiny track display, everything's crafted of natural materials; including little landmark replicas like Independence Hall made with bits of bark, tiny twigs, seeds for shingles, etc.

This year's special theme is 'Who Lives Here?' with houses that look like their imaginary inhabitants. Which explains why the hummingbird's home is so small and the possum's house is hanging upside down! Guessing who lives where is fun for kids as they wander through - and you too.

The Morris Arboretum Summer Garden Railway opens with a party Saturday May 24 from 1 to 3 - (did somebody say ice cream? Yup! While it lasts!). Then, the trains will chug along everyday through August and on weekends through October.
