Suit Over Old City Beating Death Settled For $7 Million

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A $7 million settlement has been reached in a wrongful death lawsuit against two defunct Philadelphia nightclubs stemming from the January 2012 beating death of a Temple University graduate in the historic Old City section of the city.

Authorities said 23-year-old Kevin Kless was trying to hail a taxi and yelled at a cab that declined to stop. Police said three men in another car thought the words were directed at them and piled out of the vehicle and attacked him.

One man pleaded guilty to third-degree murder the other two to involuntary manslaughter.

The settlement was announced Wednesday in the suit alleging that Lucy's Hat Shop and G Lounge had served the three men to the point of "visible intoxication," and two of them were underage.
