Study Finds Children Raised By Same-Sex Parents Are Just As Happy & Healthy As Their Peers

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A cross-sectional study distributed to more than 300 Australian same-sex parents found their children's well-being was just as good, if not better, than their peers.

Three hundred and fifteen same-sex parents, mostly lesbians, completed the survey representing 500 children up to age 17. The research found that children of same-sex parent families scored higher in general behavior, health and family cohesion compared to the rest of the general Australian population.

However, on most measures, such as emotional behavior and physical activity, there was no difference found in the children compared to their peers.

One of the authors of the study, Simon Crouch, says  the major take away from the survey is that one type of family isn't necessarily better than another and  "children can be brought up in many different family contexts."
