Students, Teachers Lace Up To Protest State Of Philly Schools

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - More than a hundred teachers and school advocates plan to run around Philadelphia school headquarters Saturday to protest the state of education in the city.
Luigi Borda has taken his protest to the streets before, running to Harrisburg three years ago - and last year running laps around Masterman High where he teaches.
At 8 a.m. Saturday , he's leading a group that plans to run circles around school headquarters at 440 North Broad Street.
"We're doing this because some schools have no counselors, no librarians, no nurses, no supplies, no books," he tells KYW Newsradio.
Borda says the event is to illustrate that teachers, parents and students run the schools.
He plans to stage the run on the first Saturday of each month until a new teachers contract is negotiated.
