Students Robbed In Separate Incidents Near Temple University

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating the robbery of three Temple University students during two separate incidents overnight near campus that happened less than an hour-and-a-half apart.

The first incident occurred just before 11 p.m. Friday.

Police say two male students, ages 20 and 21, were walking near 18th Street and Montgomery Avenue when they were approached by three men and robbed at gunpoint. The suspects stole cellphones and cash before running away. No was injured during the robbery.

Less than an 90 minutes later, a male student was attacked at an off-campus apartment in the 1500 block of North 13th Street.

In that incident, police say three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, knocked on the door and then forced their way inside. Once inside, the offenders repeatedly assaulted the 23-year-old student before fleeing through the back door. Th student suffered cuts and bruises but declined medical treatment. It was unclear what, if anything, was taken.

School officials say the same student was targeted during an armed robbery at the same location less than a week earlier.

Temple Police say they will have a visible presence in the area, especially during the evening and overnight hours.

Police continue to investigate all three incidents.

Surveillance footage of a suspect has been released in connection with the April 28 incident.
