Stray Bullet Kills Teen As She Sits On Porch In West Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (AP/CBS) — Authorities have released the name of a woman shot and killed on the front porch of a west Philadelphia home over the weekend.
Police said Monday the victim had been identified as 18-year-old Nadje Steedly.
Officers were called to the home at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday after a report of shots fired and found Steedly on the front porch with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after midnight.
Steedly's friends tell Eyewitness News they were all relaxing on this stoop when the bullets down the street started flying.
"This is our hang out spot," said one of Steedly's friends. "We always dance, put some music, we have fun. We feel safe here," she explained. "To know that something happened like this is scary."
Police said they believe the shooting followed an argument but haven't named any suspects or announced any arrests.
