Stockton Univ. President Saatkamp Leaves 4 Months Sooner Than Announced
By David Madden
GALLOWAY, N.J. (CBS) -- Stockton University's outgoing president is already gone, four months ahead of schedule.
Herman Saatkamp cited undefined health issues as one reason for tendering his resignation last week, effective at the end of August. He also mentioned disappointment over not being able to see the school open a campus in the former Showboat casino.
Over the weekend, the university faculty announced it had aproved a no-confidence vote in Saatkamp, although only one third actually sought his resignation.
Now comes word that Saatkamp is taking a medical leave, effective immediately. He's being replaced by university provost Harvey Kesselman, who is leaving July 1st to take over the University of Southern Maine.
Kesselman has ordered task forces be set up to address shared governance, the Atlantic City situation, and the search for an interim president.
