Officials Roll Out 'Third Thursday' Initiative Targeting Gun Violence In Northwest Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An initiative targeting gun violence is being rolled out in Northwest Philadelphia. It's called "Third Thursday."
Starting March 17, and every third Thursday that follows, police and community organizations will target hot spots, empowering residents with information.
"This information will inform them of community and city, as well as state resources, and supports that are available to them in the event that they see crime taking place right in their area," State Rep. Stephen Kinsey said. "This project may sound simple in concept, but we all know that it can be impactful, especially when we have communities who are desperately seeking out solutions to address the violence that's taking place right there in their own community."
Kinsey said he hopes the initiative shows people in communities combating crime that there are people who care.
