State Senator Keeps Pressure On NCAA Over Penn State Sanctions

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- The state senator who represents Penn State country says he believes there may be Congressional hearings into the harsh punishment originally handed out by the NCAA as the result of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

Republican Jake Corman, the state Senate majority leader, has posted online thousands of pages of documents related to litigation in the NCAA case, documents he says show that the NCAA ignored its own bylaws and railroaded Penn State into accepting oppressive sanctions. And he says NCAA president Mark Emmert is unfit for his position…

"President Emmert and the NCAA executive staff used the threat of the death penalty as a tool to deceive and manipulate both the NCAA executive committee and Penn State to achieve his plan on how to respond to the Penn State matter."

Corman says he knows of several Pennsylvania congressmen who are interested in pursuing the matter. In a statement, the NCAA responds by saying Corman is politicizing a matter that has now been resolved, and says the organization acted in good faith.
