St. Joseph's Women's Hoops Looking For Strong Finish
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The St. Joseph's women's basketball team will be on the road on Thursday night, visiting Massachusetts in Atlantic 10 action.
The Hawks have just two regular season games remaining as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year, but they are coming off a rough 82-56 loss at Dayton on Sunday.
"We didn't play our best against Dayton," St. Joe's head coach Cindy Griffin tells KYW Newsradio. "And certainly they did and they are capable of doing that."
Despite that defeat, the Hawks are 20-7 and 9-5 in the Atlantic 10. That conference mark has them in fifth place, but just a half-game out of third.
"We certainly have had some great wins," Griffin says. "And certainly have grown as a team and want to finish strong here, starting with UMass."
It has been a struggle for UMass, they are just 4-24 (1-13 in the A-10), but Griffin says they can't overlook this squad.
"Tonight is about playing well," Griffin says. "Moving the ball, it's about doing all the little things and really getting a flow back to where we were before the Dayton game. Certainly it's going to be a challenge for us. UMass, this is their last home game and we're sure they are up for us. But certainly we are up for them. Really just want to play well and get a lot of people involved and get a lot of balance in our scoring and keep our defense checking them as well."
St. Joe's and UMass will tip-off at 7:00pm.
