Sportscaster Don Tollefson Back on the Witness Stand at His Fraud Trial
By David Madden
DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Testimony resumed today in the fraud and theft trial of former Philadelphia television sportscaster Don Tollefson, one day after he was escorted to a hospital complaining of a blood sugar abnormality.
Tollefson, representing himself at trial, has traded often-heated comments with prosecutor Mike Weintraub. The former Channel 6 sports anchor is accused of taking charitable donations and using them for personal expenses.
He admits to being a bad accountant but insists that he never spent any money from his charitable work on himself or his wife. Tollefson says the money was often commingled between various accounts to accommodate his busy work schedule.
Weintraub is trying to stress that Tollefson profited personally, an accusation Tollefson vehemently denies.
Meanwhile, jurors could be having a hard time following Tollefson's answers to questions being posed by prosecutor Weintraub. Judge Rea Boylan stopped the proceedings several times to make sure the conversation stays on track.
