Sports Beyond Measure Podcast: Can Fans Hold Owners Accountable?
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Episode 18 of the Sports Beyond Measure Podcast, Vince Quinn, Ray Boyd and Eric "Turtle" Golden discussed the likelihood of fans having a tangible impact on the way that owners run their teams.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie just made a decision to give power over player personnel to his head coach while taking power away from his general manager. While on the surface, the decision seems to make sense, there is the possibility that friction could develop and the dynamic may be a less than symbiotic one.
Chip Kelly's rule over personnel decisions and Howie Roseman's power over negotiations and the cap could feasibly cause friction between the two.
If that doomsday scenario occurs, Lurie will have to answer to a lot of questions. Or will he?
Listen to the entire discussion on the latest Sports Beyond Measure Podcast:
Is it possible to truly impact an owner's decision and hold their feet to the fire? How do you actually hold an owner accountable?
"There's nothing you as one fan can do," said Boyd. He went on to explain that short of an outright boycotting games, there really is no course of action that would give a fan base the power to truly hold an owner accountable.
"In the grand scheme of things, you as a solo fan are pretty meaningless to the NFL," added Golden citing the fact that even in the event of a boycott, there will always be fans waiting in line to take your seat.
"So I guess what you take away from this is, Lurie better be right," Quinn said. "He better get it right because quite frankly, we can't hold anyone accountable."
