South Street Grocery Store Helps Raise Funds For 2 Local Public Schools
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's no secret that the Philadelphia School District is facing financial issues.
Now, a local grocery store is stepping up and helping out.
On Thursday, September 18th, the Whole Foods Market on South Street will be donating 5% of its net sales to two local public schools.
The schools have more than 1,300 students all together, and Whole Foods says the funds raised will directly support students.
For instance, the General George A. McCall Elementary & Middle School, one of the recipients, is hoping to raise enough money to buy Chromebooks for its sixth grade students.
The William M. Meredith Elementary School, the other facility, will be purchasing new books and an additional day of the week with an on-site nurse.
Teachers, students, parents and alumni will also be stationed at the Whole Foods to offer shoppers a warm welcome and a thank you.
