South Philadelphia Intersection Closed Due To Water Main Break

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An intersection in Grays Ferry is shut down due to a water main break that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Chopper 3 was over the scene at 28th and Dickinson Streets where the break left a long crack in the road and part of the intersection and sidewalk covered in mud.

The water department says they believe it is a 16 inch main that ruptured.

While there for excavation, officials say an eight inch main ruptured, leaving 60 homes without water service.

The water department says service should be restored within about six hours.

28th Street is closed from Tasker to Reed Streets. Dickinson Street is closed from 29th to 27th Streets.

There is no word on what caused the break.
