Police: Suspect Arrested In Connection To Multiple Attempted Abductions Of Women In North Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say the suspect wanted in multiple attempted abductions in North Philadelphia has been arrested. Shaun Lloyd was arrested Wednesday night while waiting in line at a homeless shelter on the 6900 block of Woodland Avenue in West Philadelphia.
Police say Lloyd did not resist arrest when he was spotted in line at the shelter.
He has been charged with three counts of attempt to commit kidnapping and other related offenses. Police say there was a fourth attempted abduction incident and that there may be more victims.
He is being held behind bars at $1 million bond.
Investigators say four attacks happened within 35 minutes of one another on Sunday morning on the 800 block of North 15th Street. Sources say Lloyd, who is homeless, used to live on the 1500 block of Swain Street, which is less than one block from where investigators say the attempted abductions happened.
In all of the cases, the women were able to break free. One of them was just 14 years old.
Police say private surveillance video shows Lloyd trying to kidnap a woman in the Francisville neighborhood. They are giving all the credit to neighbors who were on edge with helping to arrest Lloyd.
"They are the eyes and ears out there, if they don't tell us whats going on we don't know," Philadelphia Police Capt. Mark Burgmann said.
Police admitted Lloyd wasn't on their radar as he had no criminal history of sexual assaults, but investigators say that changed Sunday when he tried to kidnap at least four women. One of the women, Medina Oyefusi, shared her story with Eyewitness News.
"I was walking and I had just sent a text to my friend and I look up and there was a guy on the side," Medina Oyefusi said.
Police say other women who may have had interactions with Lloyd are now talking.
"Some of them were a little earlier, some were a different day, but people saw the coverage, they remember the interaction they had and now they're coming forward," Burgmann said.
There is a fourth attempted kidnapping case that police say Lloyd is linked to. They expect charges to be filed in that case soon.
