Some Changes With The Philadelphia Union
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) - Fans of the Philadelphia Union soccer team will notice a couple changes down in Chester next season.
For starters, don't call it PPL Park anymore. Not that there was any falling out, mind you.
"PPL Energy Plus was sold off to a joint venture group, Talen Energy," Union Chief Revenue Officer Dave Rowan told KYW Newsradio, "and as part of that, the assignment of the original naming rights deal, Talen Energy became the name."
So it's now Talen Energy Stadium and will be for at least the next five years, the time left on the naming rights contract.
The other change involves the front office, where Ernie Stewart steps in as the new Sporting Director, a position Rowan equates to a GM in baseball.
Stewart's got quite the record, on the field, according to Rowan. Among his achievements, he "won an MLS Cup in DC back in the early 2000's, played on 4 United States teams in World Cups, the captain of one of those teams."
Given all that, Rowan predicts great things for the Union's performance going forward.
