Sheryl Sandberg set to interview Malala Yousafzai

Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg will sit down with Malala Yousafzai August 8th at 2 pm.

Yousafzai survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban due to her outspoken beliefs about women's rights and education. She also founded of the Malala Fund, a nonprofit dedicated to educating young girls across the world.

The is hosted by LeanIn.org and the conversation will be live streamed on Facebook Live from its headquarters in Silicon Valley.

You can participate in the event and submit questions for the young activist on Facebook Live, Facebook's nonprofits page, Malala Fund's Facebook page and LeanIn's Facebook page.

Facebook adds features to Slingshot

The social network has updated its Snapchat competitor Slingshot.

Slingshot users now have the ability to react to reactions to their slings and its easier to find friends to sling with, a new "My People" tab that displays your Facebook friends and contacts in one list.

Users can also send messages to contacts who don't currently have the app via text message.

Twitter buys password sharing start-up

Twitter has acquired password-sharing start-up Mitro.

The move was announced in a Mitro blog post, "We're excited to announce that the Mitro team is joining Twitter's location team in New York, focusing on a variety of Geo-related projects! As we transition to Twitter, we want to provide you with some updates on our product."

 

Mitro was founded by Adam Hilss in 2012. The company's primary product is a web browser extension that allowed users to store and share passwords.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
