Snow Makes Getting Around In Manayunk Difficult To Impossible
By Pat Loeb
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Manayunk is known for its nightlife and its hills. Its streets are so steep, one of them is nicknamed "the Wall," and that makes the snow especially challenging.
Eric Parker was trying to get to work, *up* one of Manayunk's famed hills.
"My car slid right back down. As fast as I pressed on the gas, that's how fast I was going backwards."
He says that's a scary feeling.
"You don't want to pay that deductible, you don't want to mess your car up."
Tim O'Donnell had to brave the hills. He's a mailman, but he wouldn't try to drive.
"We park at the bottom and take two or three streets with us and come back and do the packages and walk them up, three or four packages."
Snow will not keep him from his appointed rounds.
"No, no," he said. "You know how it goes -- rain, snow, sleet or hail, we're out here."
Residents say the snow can be a bonding experience, but Brittany calls it a bond of frustration.
"They don't plow the side streets, and most of us live on side streets, so going up and down it's very icy. Everyone I know has fallen at least once, including myself."
