Small Business Robbed, Suspect Called Crafty And Resilient
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are asking for the public's help in identifying a burglary suspect they're calling "crafty" and "resilient."
The burglary happened at the Sunnyside Seafood Restaurant near 40th and Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia.
"He breaks through a vacant property though the wall, as he comes through the wall he's rather crafty, he's very resilient because he's blocked by a refrigerator," Lt. John Walker of Philadelphia Police tells Eyewitness News.
Surveillance video released by Philadelphia Police Wednesday appear to show the suspect enter the restaurant from behind a refrigerator, after creating a hole in the wall from a vacant property next door. After moving the refrigerator, the suspect can be seen crawling to the restaurant's cash register, where authorities say about $300 was taken.
The burglary is believed to have happened sometime between the night of Jan. 17th and the morning of the Jan. 19th, when the burglary was discovered by the owner.
Surveillance shows the suspect leaving the restaurant through the same hole in the wall he entered. Police believe the suspect may be known to the area and they are asking anyone with information to give them a call at 215-686-TIPS.
"A business like this, especially with these weather conditions, are suffering at this point," Lt. Walker said. "So it's a big loss to the owner, even though it seems to be a small amount of money, it's a huge loss."
