Slain Officer's Heroics In Shootout May Be Shown In Court

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A video showing a police officer taking on two gunmen before he was killed in a Philadelphia store robbery may be played at a preliminary hearing.

Prosecutors say two men charged with murder in the case are each responsible for the March 5 death of Officer Robert Wilson III. The defendants are 29-year-old ex-convict Carlton Hipps and 25-year-old Ramone Williams, his half-brother. They'll be in court on Wednesday.

Police officials have widely praised Wilson's efforts to protect customers and overtake the gunmen during the holdup of a Game Stop store in North Philadelphia.

They say the 30-year-old officer had gone inside to do a security check and buy a gift for his son's upcoming 10th birthday.

The police department has since named an award for valor after Wilson.
