Sixers Second Summer League Group Has Some Local Flavor
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- While the Sixers are in the midst of competing in the Orlando Pro Summer League, the team has announced their invitees for their camp due to take place prior to the Samsung NBA Summer League in Vegas. There are several local players that will get a shot to test their luck in Las Vegas with the Sixers.
The NBA's second summer league is set for July 11th-21st. Most NBA teams do not play in both Summer Leagues, but the Sixers have a lot of young players that need more time to develop.
Among the invitees are former Temple basketball player, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson. The 6'6 forward last suited up for AB Contern in Luxembourg following his final season on North Broad.
In his final season with the Owls (2012-13), Hollis-Jefferson averaged 8.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists for Fran Dunphy's team. Hollis-Jefferson hails from Chester, Pa where starred at Chester High School.
Hollis-Jefferson's younger brother, Rondae currently plays for the University of Arizona and was named to the PAC-12 All Freshmen Team last season.
The Sixers will also give a shot to Tyreek Duren out of LaSalle. Duren averaged 15.2 points per game as a senior for LaSalle to go along with 3.5 assists per night and 40.8% shooting from downtown.
At 6'0, 190 lbs, Duren will be one of many prospects looking to etch out a spot in the Sixers wide open back up point guard vacancy. Duren is from Philadelphia and starred at Neumann-Goretti.
The Sixers Las Vegas roster also includes players from other local programs including Tim Frazier (Penn State), Devon Saddler (Delaware) and Jamelle Hagins (Delaware).
The camp prior to the Samsung NBA Summer League will take place from July 7th-11th.
