Showers Eventually Give Way To Pleasant Holiday Weekend
By Kate Bilo
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An active pattern through the end of the week will eventually give way to a pleasant holiday weekend, with warming expected each day and increasing amounts of sunshine.
We continue to deal with showers around the area this afternoon, and the clouds are firmly in place as well. There may be a rumble of thunder or two this evening and tonight, but for the most part the clouds and rain have stabilized the atmosphere enough that we're not concerned about anything severe.
That changes tomorrow, as a stronger disturbance and more sunshine will increase the chance for scattered but locally strong thunderstorms in the area. We are in a "Slight Risk" area for severe weather in Philadelphia and the nearby suburbs, meaning that any thunderstorm could produce strong, damaging winds and the threat for hail.
That system exits Thursday night, but another low will try to develop just offshore, spinning some showers back into the area during the day Friday.
Friday is cooler as well, with highs back in the lower 70's. But improvement is the story through the holiday weekend. We'll have partly sunny and cool conditions for Saturday, still the chance of a stray shower, but then the sun will be shining brightly Sunday and Monday. Highs will climb close to 80 on Sunday and then reach the low 80's for Memorial Day.
Something to look forward to indeed!
