Shots Fired Following Large Brawl In Darby Borough

DARBY BOROUGH, Pa. (CBS) – Police in Darby Borough, Delaware County are searching for a man who fired multiple shots following a large brawl while dozens of children were outside playing in the neighborhood.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday near 3rd Street and Greenway Avenue.

Police say the incident started with a large fight involving a number of adults with baseball bats, and then a man pulled a handgun and fired six rounds close to where about three dozen children were playing in the street.

"They're morons. That's the only way I can put this," said Darby Police Chief Robert Smythe. "People just take these guns and they're shooting in neighborhoods that are full of children."

No one was struck, but police say one round went into a house.

Police released cell phone video of the brawl and a picture of the man who they say fired the shots (pictured above).

"Very dangerous," Smyth says, "And he's still armed. We're hot on his trail."

Smythe says it's unclear at this point what sparked the fight. He says police will be doubling patrols after this incident of violence, one of several in recent days in the Darby Borough community.
