A man died after being shot multiple times in Northeast Philadelphia, police announced Saturday evening. Philadelphia Police Inspector D F Pace gave updates to CBS News Philadelphia.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of East Cheltenham Avenue in Frankford just after 7 p.m.

Pace said there were multiple 911 calls of a person shot and officers discovered a 41-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound to his chest and the car that he was in was shot at several times.

The man was taken to a hospital and was later pronounced dead at 7:33 p.m., according to police.

"It looks like the man had just pulled up to the curb where he was getting out of his vehicle to enter his home. He lives on the block. When a gold-colored Chevy Trailblazer pulled up next to them [the man] and opened fire," said Pace.

Pace continued saying a person in the Chevy fired at least seven shots and at least seven spent shell casings were found at the scene. Police believe it's possible more shots were fired.

"Afterwards, the vehicle that the shooter was in, drove at least a half of a block and stopped brazenly at the next traffic light and remained there stopped for at least two cycles at that light before speeding off," said Pace.

By having part of the incident on camera and seeking additional surveillance footage, police are hopeful that they will have information on what exactly happened.

There is no motive for the shooting at this time and no one is in custody.

Pace also answered questions about a car pursuit nearby and said that was an unrelated incident involving a stolen car and a highway patrol officer took that person into custody.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to contact the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or submit an anonymous tip via the PPD tipline at 215-686-TIPS (8477). A $20,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
