Severe Weather Advancing Through The Region Tonight

By Kate Bilo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today's heat and humidity are feeding a line of strong to severe thunderstorms advancing through the region along a cold front. These storms have a history of producing wind gusts in excess of 60mph, as well as very heavy downpours and small hail, though luckily we haven't seen hail of the same magnitude as last week.

Any storm that rolls through the area tonight will feature a dangerous combination of strong winds, heavy downpours and possible hail, and could limit visibility and slow things down on area roadways. It's also that time of year when lots of people pack the baseball field for kid's games - remember, if you can hear thunder, you can be struck by lightning, and these storms have frequent lightning with them. Please look for an indoor area and make sure to stay under cover until the threat has passed.

Behind this line of storms, major changes are on the way as much cooler air invades along an easterly flow for Wednesday and Thursday. Gone is the summerlike heat and humidity, and we're back to cool, breezy weather with temperatures struggling to even hit the 70 degree mark! A few showers will come through on Wednesday, mainly from the city on south, and then more sunshine Thursday but it does stay cool. Temps start to rebound Friday, and then it's a beautiful weekend with highs in the upper 70's both days and a good deal of sunshine - a pleasant way to kick off the month of June!
