SEPTA Passes Out Safety Pamphlets To Commuters, Again

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - SEPTA is running another "safety blitz" this morning.

SEPTA management and transit police are here at the East Falls stop along the Manayunk Norristown line, handing out pamphlets with safety tips.

Joining them is Mary Jane Fullam with East Falls Town Watch.

"Usually, it's non commuters that are doing the wrong thing walking on the tracks and climbing the fences," she said. "We've had three fatalities within the last number of months, one back in May."

Fullam says town watch is also here to try to help commuters from being a victim of crime at the station.

"Robberies, mostly. Not a great number," she said. "Just enough that we want to stay on top of things."

She says the town watch worked with SEPTA to install six surveillance cameras at this stop.
