Senator Jake Corman Against PSU Sanctions: Mark Emmert Should Be Fired
HARRISBURG (AP/CBS) — The Pennsylvania state senator whose lawsuit led the NCAA to lift the last of Penn State's sanctions stemming from the Jerry Sandusky scandal says the organization's president, Mark Emmert, should be fired.
Sen. Jake Corman said Wednesday that 4,900 pages of documents from the case show that in 2012 the NCAA under Emmert exceeded its own legal authority and misled Penn State to get school officials to agree to the sanctions.
He says a thorough investigation by the NCAA's executive committee should find that the organization has a culture problem and that Emmert lacks the credibility to lead college sports' governing body.
Donald Remy, NCAA's chief legal officer, says Corman is simply seeking to capitalize politically and that the NCAA is focused on helping victims of child sexual abuse survivors.
