Senate President Criticizes Christie Over Handling Of Sandy Aftermath

PERTH AMBOY, N.J. (AP) — State Senate President Steve Sweeney is criticizing Gov. Chris Christie's administration over its handling of the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Sweeney says just a fraction of the federal aid given to the state has been distributed to those in need and Christie has failed to implement an integrity-monitor program aimed at maintaining transparency. The program is operational, but Sweeney says important information has been left out of its reports.

Sweeney spoke Wednesday in Perth Amboy, where he first promoted his Sandy Bill of Rights tour. That legislation failed after the Senate didn't override Christie's conditional veto this year.

The Democrat says many storm victims still haven't returned to their homes or been given information they need.

Sweeney's trip comes as Christie visits residents and businesses on the storm's second anniversary.
