Safety First For Fourth Of July
KYW's Medical Report Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The July Fourth weekend is one of family celebration and a few moments of reflection about our independence and it is also a time where many of us can participate in parades and community events. For some, it is a time of travel to visit relatives and friends at distant locations. And, of course there are the fireworks. But, with the travel and the fireworks there are potential issues.
I give this advice every summer but we still have problems with fireworks. Children who should not be using these devices as well as adults who have little experience or may be inebriated can suffer serious injuries - remember fireworks are explosive devices.
The other issue is making certain that when you are traveling that you wear a seatbelt and have the family in seatbelts or carseats as well. Caution is key - have a great holiday weekend but be careful!
